Save information about who we are.
“The only thing I know about my own family is a little about my great-grandfather — and even that is fragmentary and hard to understand.”
A genetic test tells me my ancestors came from Northern and Southern Europe. But it can’t tell me their stories, their values, their thoughts. I can’t see their faces or picture the lives they lived.
For a long time I thought the answer was to dig through archives and reconstruct the past. It isn’t. Most of it is simply gone — before the 20th century, there’s no real way to know who my ancestors were.
So I’m solving it from the other direction. Not recovering the people before me, but making sure the people after me never have to wonder. I’m building a system that preserves who our ancestors were, and who they were connected to.
We are information. When we save it, we save the world a little — one life at a time, for everyone who comes next.
